The Development Authority of Washington County, at their regularly scheduled quarterly meeting on Wednesday, July 18, announced that Premier Tire Distributors, Inc. will be locating in the former Bennett Building in Tennille.

Premier Tire Distributors, based out of Garden City, Georgia, provides tire and preventative maintenance services to the transportation and industrial industries.  Established in 2014, they have been incredibly successful in their core business and have now positioned themselves to move into manufacturing.

Tire retreading is an eco-friendly and consumer-friendly process that prolongs the lifespan of tires.  Premier Tire, through their process and product offerings, will provide commercial trucking and transportation companies with significant reduction in costs and environmental impacts.

Billy Dorsey, President of Premier Tire stated, “We are excited to begin production in Washington County. The location will allow us to distribute throughout Georgia, the Carolina's, Eastern Alabama, and Northern Florida. Premier Tire is very fortunate to have landed in such a great community as Washington County.”

“Announcements such as this do not come along every day, nor happen overnight, but come from years of work, development of marketing materials and a consistent message that Washington County is a great central location to do business and distribute in Georgia,” said Authority Chairman Mike Sheppard.  “Billy Dorsey has been incredible to work with throughout the location process, and his company will be an asset to Washington County.”

Premier Tire will employ 30 people at their Tennille location, and are making a capital investment of $1.5 million.  They will have the capacity to retread up to 300 truck tires per day.  The partnership with Michelin Tire provides Premier a vast array of resources to offer their customers and further strengthen their place in the industry.

When discussing this new industry location, Commission Chairman Horace Daniel stated, “On behalf of the Commission we are very pleased and proud to know that Premier Tire will be establishing itself here in Washington County.  New business and jobs are always welcome, and we couldn’t be any happier that they have chosen to locate here.”  Daniel went on to say, “With the type of work they do and the local businesses here and across the region that use their products, it’s a win-win for everyone.  We look forward to working with them for years to come.”

While the location of new industry in a community often comes with tax incentives and abatements, that was not the case for the location of Premier Tire in Washington County.  The State of Georgia resources were tapped by the Authority to provide assistance in workforce recruiting and the hiring process, funding for training, job creation state tax credits and other resources.  The state’s Department of Economic Development, Department of Labor and Workforce Board were all a part of the team that assisted in the location process of Premier Tire Distributors.

Oconee Fall Line Technical College were also instrumental in the recruitment process and were involved from the early onset of conversations with Premier Tire.  There are on-going conversations between Premier Tire and the college regarding specialized and customized training opportunities.

When Tennille Mayor Jerome Alexander learned of the coming announcement he was thrilled with their choice of location.  “We couldn’t be happier to have such an outstanding company as Premier Tire Distributors locating its business in the City of Tennille.  With this announcement, the citizens of Tennille and Washington County can rejoice because of the new jobs that Premier Tire Distributors will be bringing to our community. I’m confident they will be successful here and be a great addition to our manufacturing base. Finally, I’d like to thank all involved in this good news; the Washington County Development Authority board, staff and particularly Premier Tire Distributors.”

The Department of Labor will be holding a Job Fair for Premier Tire Distributers on August 8th from 10 AM – 2 PM at Oconee Fall Line Technical College.  For more information contact Ginger Carrington, Regional Coordinator, GA Department of Labor at ginger.carrington@gadol.ga.gov or 404-852-0425.
